DEADPOOL 2 Replacing FANTASTIC FOUR Sequel

Movie News

Before the release of the latest incarnation of The Fantastic Four, an over confident 20th Century Fox announced its sequel. June 9th, 2017 was to have been its release date, but that has now been given to Deadpool 2.

News seems to appear daily about just how troubled a shoot FF was, with director Josh Trank himself stating that the finished product was not his vision. There have also been reports that the initial budget was slashed by tens of millions of dollars and that the studio tried to force last-minute changes to the movie just as filming was starting, as well as delays on final script approval that hampered crew workers who were trying to build sets, make costumes and props.

Coupled with shockingly negative reviews and an ambivalent public, Fantastic Four has simply failed to find its audience as its underwhelming $26.2 million take in its first weekend testifies.

However, Deadpool’s explicit red band trailer has created a huge sense of excitement amongst the fan community and just last week it was hinted that the leader of X-Force, Cable, could feature in Deadpool 2. It’s no secret that Fox is currently developing an X-Force movie, and as Colossus briefly appears in the Deadpool trailer, clearly linking the film to the X-films that have come before, it’s a more than plausible suggestion.

If Fox does scrap the FF sequel and use the date for Deadpool 2, then production would have to start in early 2016 at the latest. Although star Ryan Reynolds has already confirmed that he’d return, director Tim Miller, nor screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, have made that commitment.

Now if Fox could just hand over The Fantastic Four back to Marvel so we can have the film we’ve all been longing for.
