Eli Roth in Talks to Direct MEG

Movie News

A week or two ago brought word the Steve Alten’s MEG was finally about to be turned into a big screen movie, and now comes some news on who may very well be directing the megalodon terror tale.

Variety is reporting that modern horror maestro Eli Roth is in talks to direct the film for Warner Brothers. Roth, of course, as well as producing far too many movies to list, is best known for directing Cabin Fever and the first two Hostel movies.

As to where MEG is at the moment, there’s a script in place from Dean Georgaris and Warners is supposedly looking at moving forward with the film as a priority in order to cash in on the buzz around Jurassic World, which has recently smashed the opening weekend record set by Avengers: Assemble.

In case you’re not familiar with MEG, Steve Alten’s MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror was released in 1997 and has spawned several follow-ups, with the action focussing on the 80-foot megalodon and the tale often described as Jurassic Park with a shark” as the California coast is terrorised by this ancient threat.

So it looks as if MEG is finally going to get a long-awaited adaptation, and it seems as if Eli Roth will be the man overseeing it.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
