Movie News

A couple of weeks back we reported that Tom Cruise would possibly be starring in ALL YOU NEED IS KILL for director Doug Liman once he has finished something called HORIZONS for TRON:LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski. Now further details have emerged from Hollywood regarding this new sci-fi epic.

Previously going under the title of OBLIVION, the film takes place in a world where an apocalyptic event has rendered much of the planets surface uninhabitable. Humans have taken to living in the clouds. Cruise will play a repairman and soldier named Jak, who remains on the surface of the planet to maintain drones that keep the planet safe from a marauding alien force. One day he comes across a crashed escape pod which contains a woman with an unusual appearance that makes him question his world view.

The plot certainly sounds interesting although it again contains an alien invasion component that almost everything going into production seems to have. This weekend actresses Kate Beckinsale, Hayley Atwell and Diane Kruger will be auditioning for the female lead. Personally after CAPTAIN AMERICA I am really looking forward to seeing more of Hayley Atwell on the screen so she gets my vote.

HORIZONS comes from an original idea by Joseph Kosinski and Arvid Nelson which was then turned into a graphic novel. William Monahan (The Departed) turned the idea into a screenplay. It is expected that the film will be in cinemas in Summer 2013.
