Movie News

2003’s The League of Extraordinary Gentleman was such a huge let down to many, but now Hollywood is taking another crack at the property.

Tracking Board is reporting that 20th Century Fox is beginning to start work on a new adaptation of the classic Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill comic series, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman. This will essentially ignore the 2003 movie and start from scratch once more, with the plan being for this to be the launch of a major cinematic franchise. John Davis is already on board to produce, and the search for a director is now believed to be underway.

The original comic book centred on a group of classic Victorian literature characters, such as Captain Nemo, Invisible Man, Mina Harker, Allan Quatermain, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, who were put together by the British government to put an end to the on-going war between Fu Manchu and Professor Moriarty.

As mentioned, there was that movie in 2003, which had many significant departures from the source material and as a result was one of the main reasons for Alan Moore’s dislike of Hollywood. Then a few years ago brought word of a TV series being in the works, although that ultimately came to nothing.

Expect more on this cinematic redo as it develops.
