Movie News

There’s been rumours of the casting for a few weeks now, but it appears that the search for the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man is over.

Latino Review is reporting that it is indeed Asa Butterfield, as recently speculated, who has landed the Wallcrawler gig. The outlet goes on to say that Butterfield’s representatives are currently finalising the deal with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. As such, no official announcement has been made as of yet, although one is expected to follow over the next few days.

It was previously reported that Ender’s Game actor Butterfield headed up a shortlist that also including Timothee Chalamet, Tom Holland, Liam James and Nat Wolff, and it now appears as if the MCU has finally found its Spidey.

Spider-Man will make his MCU debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War before then shooting off into his own solo movie in 2017. As far as the Webhead solo film is concerned, it’s believed that Warm Bodies’ Jonathan Levine, St. Vincent’s Ted Melfi, Pitch Perfect’s Jason Moore, Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess, and Vacation’s duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are the names currently in the frame to direct that.

As ever, expect more on this develops, and it could very well be that we get something official on Spidey over the weekend.
