With Ben Hardy’s mystery role finally confirmed to be that of Warren Worthington III/Angel/Archangel in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, now comes news of another addition. Olivia Munn, best known for the likes of MAGIC MIKE, THE NEWSROOM, DELIVER US FROM EVIL and even for popping up in IRON MAN 2, will be playing Betsy Braddock, aka Psylocke… a character who actually featured in a relatively small role in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, played then by Mei Melancon. Director Singer confirmed the news on his various social media pages.

The character of Psylocke is one with a slightly convoluted backstory (as is often the case with comic book characters). Betsy Braddock actually debuted back in 1976’s CAPTAIN BRITAIN #8 as the twin sister of the book’s titular hero. Fast forward to a decade down the line and NEW MUTANT ANNUAL #2 saw the telepathic Braddock take over the body of Kwannon, a Japanese ninja. It was at this point that she would become a member of the X-Men known as Psylocke. What elements of the character are brought to the big screen this time out will be interesting to see.

As well as Ben Hardy as Warren Worthington III, Munn joins a cast that includes James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Lana Condor as Jubilee and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse. Then there’s still also a very good chance that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will make an appearance, too.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is currently set for a May 27th, 2016 release.
