Stephen Amell is TMNT2's Casey Jones

Movie News

In fairness, whilst many of us were expecting last year’s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES to take a turd all over our childhoods before stamping on them, it turned out to not be quite as bad as it could’ve been. Sure, the film wasn’t ideal, but certain parts were, dare we say it, enjoyable. With a sequel now on the way, how do you get fanboys to give you a chance? Why, a step in the right direction would surely be to cast a beloved modern genre star in a key role, right? Indeed, and as such it looks as if The Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, is on board for TMNT2.

Variety initially reported that Amell was set to join TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 in the role of fan favourite Casey Jones, a part played by Elias Koteas in the original movie franchise, and this was later confirmed by the actor himself. Taking to his social media sites, Amell confirmed, "What a fantastic day. Honored to play Casey Jones in #TMNT2". Given the trepidation from long-standing genre fans about the first film and this upcoming sequel, the casting of the super-likable, super-accessible, all round awesome dude that is Stephen Amell is certain to calm the storm that resides within many.

The report goes on to say that Amell was amongst six or seven actors who tested for the role over this past weekend, with him supposedly getting the nod down to his chemistry with the returning Megan Fox. And y’know, he’s Oliver freakin’ Queen. When asked on the news, Paramout refused to comment, but Amell has since confirmed all of this to be true.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.

TMNT2 is set for a 2016 release.

I really, REALLY hope this isn't an early April Fool's. Or if it is, the sheer awesomeness of the concept makes it actually come to pass.
