Movie News

After Luke Evans departed the film, the latest speculation was that Jack Huston would be taking the Eric Draven gig in the upcoming remake of THE CROW. Huston has now seemingly been confirmed for the role, as has Jessica Brown Findlay as the film’s Shelly Webster. James O’Barr, creator of the original comic book and who is involved in this redo, confirmed this news at the recent Lexington Comic and Toy Convention.

As reported by Dread Central, O’Barr revealed, “Jack Huston has definitely been cast. Really happy with that choice,” before adding that the film “will shoot in a couple of months.”

During the Con, O’Barr also let the cat out of the bag that Jessica Brown Findlay will be taking on the role of Shelly, the murdered girlfriend of Eric Draven, aka The Crow. Whereas the actress is best known for DOWNTON ABBEY and MISFITS, Huston won plaudits for his performance as Richard Harrow in BOARDWALK EMPIRE and is also to star in the upcoming BEN-HUR remake.

In additional news on the film, at least one GAME OF THRONES alumni will be a part of the film’s cast, and the film itself will be set in Detroit but actually shot in Belgium. Shooting will start this spring.

The plot is said to mirror the original mini-series more closely that Alex Proyas' 1994 film, including the fact that the crow that guides Eric will actually talk to him. Given director Corin Hardy’s music video and short film past, some are suggesting that the bird will be done using stop-motion animation.

Where the soundtrack is concerned, O’Barr himself has actually been heavily involved in choosing the songs that will be used, including some Joy Division songs as referenced in the source material.

If all goes well with this remake, the plan is for sequels to then be focussed on The Crow in different settings, time periods, and forms. The current plan is for the second film in any possible series to focus on a female Crow, which would likely be based on Iris Shaw from 1996’s THE CROW: FLESH & BLOOD graphic novel.

Given how this project has stalled at various points over the last few years, it seems as if THE CROW has finally found its wings. Sorry, we’ll get our coat…
