With INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 now moving forward, The Wrap is reporting that Liam Hemsworth has been offered a leading role in the follow-up to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 movie.

Hemsworth is best known for roles in THE HUNGER GAMES and THE EXPENDABLES 2, and is also the younger brother of a certain Thunder God. Production on the sequel, which will again be directed by Emmerich, is looking to start in May. Will Smith will not be returning, although Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are expected to reprise their roles from the first film.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 is currently set for a June 24th, 2016 release.
