Deadline is reporting that Simon West will be directing a remake of THE BLOB for Goldcrest Films. West is best known for his work on CON AIR and THE EXPENDABLES 2.

On the news, West said, “With modern CGI we can now fully realise the potential of THE BLOB. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

The original 1958 movie featured Steve McQueen doing his best to stop an alien goo that keeps on growing the more people it devours. That then led to 1972’s BEWARE! THE BLOB, with 1988 seeing the original film remade by Chuck Russell.

Expect more on this as it develops.
