News: Matthew Vaughn Picks Up Rights to Mark Millar's SUPERIOR

From what I understand of comics nowadays, people have mixed opinions about the prolific writer Mark Millar. If you don’t know the name you will know the films that have been based on his work, WANTED and KICK-ASS. I’ve heard his work called crass and juvenile but I’ve also heard it called genius. The forthcoming AVENGERS movie will owe Millar’s run on Marvels THE ULTIMATES a huge debt as well. After the success of previous comic adaptation KICK-ASS and the success of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, director Matthew Vaughn has bagged the rights to Millar’s popular comic book SUPERIOR.

SUPERIOR tells the tale of a young boy stricken by multiple sclerosis who has a wish to become a superhero magically granted. He subsequently uses his powers to take on criminals, end conflict in the Middle East, feed starving children and rescue people from natural catastrophes. The story is apparently based on a boy Millar grew up with who was stricken with the disease. The comic has been produced in association with the National MS Society.

It’s not yet known whether Matthew Vaughn will direct this or merely produce. He has a lot on his plate with other Millar adaptation CHOSEN as well as possible sequels to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and KICK-ASS. Should he want to move into more family friendly fare then this sounds like it could be a hot ticket.
