News: David Cronenberg Buzzing About a Sequel To THE FLY!

Movie News

A remake of David Cronenberg's 1986 film (itself a remake of the 1958 original) has been rumoured for some time, but when asked about it during his DANGEROUS METHOD promotional duties, the legendary director surprised all by revealing the following: “The Fly is not exactly a remake, it’s sort of a sequel, kinda. Yeah, that was a thing. I’ve written a script of that, and I don’t know if that’s going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox.”

Excellent news (should Fox go with it), and especially encouraging that Hollywood might be rethinking their approach to remakes by not simply handing the property to the latest up-and-coming music video director (we're looking at you Platinum Dunes) to butcher. Cronenberg's vague description sounds like this idea could serve as both a continuation, and reinterpretation of the original story - ala Universal's upcoming version of THE THING, (but he'd better acknowledge the underrated 1989 sequel THE FLY II as part of the canon, or there'll be trouble!).

Let's hope 20th Century Fox have the (blue)bottle to go with Cronenberg's vision instead of playing it safe with a watered down PG-13 horror.

Im with you on this Kris. I want David's idea and take on this to be the one that they go forward with. The original is something to be reckoned with, so why try to recreat it. Doing a part 2 of sorts is something i would love to see.

Go David!
