EARTH TO ECHO Director to Helm TMNT 2

Movie News

Jonathan Liebesman’s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES most definitely split opinion amongst fans and critics earlier this year. Certain elements of the movie were decent enough, other elements massively flawed, and some long-time TMNT fans were simply horrified by what the film did to their Heroes in a Half-Shell. Before that film even hit screens, it was confirmed that there would definitely be a sequel. Now comes news on just who will be directing said follow-up.

Variety is reporting that Liebesman won’t be back for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2, with David Green instead taking on the directing duties. Green is best known to most for this year’s EARTH TO ECHO, which was a well-received family-friendly movie about a robotic alien. Michael Bay will again be producing the film through his Platinum Dunes company.

The first TURTLES movie grossed $477 million globally, and when we spoke to some of the stars of that film earlier this year it became apparent that the majority of the cast had signed multiple-picture deals that tied them to the franchise. The first film starred Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, William Fichtner, Danny Woodburn, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub, with it a safe bet that the majority of those names will return for the sequel.

As for plot news, all is still silent on the TMNT 2 front, although the last few months saw some concept art released for how Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang were to look when they were close to being included in the first film. Chances are that all three of those characters could turn up in the sequel.

At present, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 is set for a June 3rd, 2016 release.
