Ridley Scott Teases BLADE RUNNER 2 Details; Won't Be Directing

Movie News

A BLADE RUNNER sequel has been regularly talked about ever since Ridley Scott’s 1982 original hit the big screen. 32 years later and we’ve still yet to see a follow-up, although we have been given a ridiculous amount of variant home releases of the film. Over the last year or so, talk of a BLADE RUNNER 2 has picked up once more, although Ridley Scott has now confirmed that he will not be directing the sequel.

Having revealed he’ll serve as just producer on the film, Scott spoke to Variety about the story, saying, “We talked at length about what it could be and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline.”

On the possible return of Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, he added, “Harrison is very much part of this one. But it’s really about finding him. He comes in in the third act.”

Whilst Scott won’t be directing the BLADE RUNNER sequel, he has already been developing the screenplay with Hampton Francher, who penned the original film along with David Peoples. The 1982 original, of course, was based on Philip K. Dick’s DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP.

As ever, expect to hear more on this as it develops, and with a story seemingly ready you’d have to expect that the film will start making some heavy moves forward if it is indeed serious about finally happening.
