Ubisoft’s cult 2003 title BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL was, for many, a landmark video game. Not only did it seamlessly blend Eastern and Western cultures for a beautiful and compelling environment, it also introduced audiences to Jade. She was a strong, sophisticated, confident, and attractive woman; never fobbed off as mere titillation. It was a huge step.

The game remains a fan favourite, frequently included in lists of best games of all time, and remains this writer’s all-time favourite video game. For the last decade, there have been whispers of a sequel (officially confirmed in 2008). Though they've been quiet for the last few years, Ubisoft have stated they’re working hard on the 'extremely ambitious project.'

Speaking to Polygon, a representative from Ubisoft stated, 'In many ways, [BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL] is an inimitable game--it appeals to all generations of gamers and is an inspiration behind many of Ubisoft Montpellier's past and future games. It's still far too early to give many details about this new title.' They also confirmed that the sequel will be coming to next-gen platforms, and is indeed likely to go above and beyond the boundaries of what a sequel is expected to be.

Revealing further details, the representative said, 'What we can say is that while [25-year Ubisoft veteran Michel Ancel, who designed the original BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL] and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they're developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative, and exceptional game. The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we'll have more to share later, as it progresses.'

Though no release date has been given, we’ll have details when they develop.
