Despite the failure of the last game to be featured in the Aliens cinematic universe, it seems that plans to have a new title have gone ahead. Early information has emerged on the Xbox Marketplace, listing the game’s plot along with information which gives some idea of the title’s direction. The early synopsis released is as follows:

“Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien™, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother's disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.”

Based far more upon the original Ridley Scott outing than James Cameron’s sequel, the early screenshots already display visual designs and distinctions more at home with the horror film. Furthermore, the description indicates only a single alien will be the enemy which indicates more of a horror angle than the action fest of other games.

Unfortunately this very early look does little to suggest the mechanics or offer any solid look into Isolation. This is what many are looking for due to Creative Assembly’s inexperience in creating horror games. Best known for their work on the Total War series, they have only occasionally moved away from the real time strategy genre. Even then their choices of titles have usually been action hack and slash games with the likes of Viking: Battle for Asgard. Furthermore, as is all too common in this industry, it’s highly likely many of the screenshots featured have been touched up to promote the title given the Xbox 360 label listed with the game. As many learned from Gearbox not too long ago, it’s hard to judge a game’s visual quality based purely upon promotional material.

Still, we have new details on what is to come and with it up on the marketplace we can expect more news to follow.
