Gaming News: CHAINSAW WARRIOR Released on Steam in Unplayable State

While Games Workshop’s last classic revival of a title in video game format was hardly without flaws, at least it worked. Here Chainsaw Warrior has been released onto Steam with a very specific problem: It was missing almost all of its files. Shortly after going up, buyers who grabbed the game soon came to realise that something was wrong when the usually lengthy installation process was completed near instantly. It turns out they were right, not only was it missing an .exe file but game folders upon downloading were completely empty.

A thread in Steam’s community hub lists early complaints from more than a few buyers, understandably frustrated at having bought effectively nothing. As multiple review copies were sent out to various gaming magazines, it can be assumed that this is not the final state of the game and is a screw-up of some kind on the part of Valve or the developer Auroch Digital. Thankfully four hours after its release Steam responded, uploading launch options and making the title playable for those who purchased it. While such a fast response is generally well known of Valve, it does highlight a problem with the running of the software.

Steam is widely regarded the lesser of two evils compared to Origin, infamous for preventing customers from using online or co-op functions, this has been a problem the distribution software suffers from. We have seen in the past many titles go onto Steam in incomplete states without any warning, sometimes visibly unfinished to the point where they simply do not work. Chainsaw Warrior’s problems have been dealt with, with all the professionalism Steam users have come to expect but how many more times will we see this happen in the future.
