Phantasy Star Online 2 Gaming News

Updates, patches and the like are always problematic. For every new update can come new glitches, bugs and failures. EA’s Origin system recently proved this with a disastrous patch which blocked all online gaming with their titles, yet somehow Sega has managed to perform an even worse error. An update to the Japanse MMO Phantasy Star Online 2 has managed to enrage the game’s community as it has led to player hard drives being wiped.

According to users, an update to the game’s launcher began deleting various files at random from PCs. Stories from players have stated that it went so far as to try and free up multiple gigabytes for the game, resulting in hard drives being completely wiped clean of all data. The updater itself has been shown to delete various sensitive files in efforts to free up data, including programs necessary for launching Windows itself.

Sega’s response has unfortunately only fanned the flames of rage in response to this. In an apology they offered $50 worth of coupons, 10,000AC in game, in compensation for their game wrecking player’s computers.

Questions have arisen as to how this would even be possible, with players accusing the company of sloppy testing, programing and a lack of caution on the part of the game’s coders. Whether or not this will be resolved remains to be seen. However with Final Fantasy campaigning to appease its own disappointed community, and other prolific titles such as Destiny soon to be released, questions have arisen to whether the game will survive the coming year with such a degree of incompetence behind it.
