FIREFLY ONLINE Game Footage Released

The first gameplay footage has been released from FIREFLY ONLINE, an upcoming MMO based on the much-loved and cruelly short-lived series. It features some running around a derelict ship that looks suspiciously similar to the one the crew encountered in Bushwhacked, which it transpired had been hit by the animalistic cannibal Reavers, and also contains a couple of lines from Mal and Jayne lifted directly from the episode.

The developers’ description of the game reads “In FIREFLY ONLINE, players assume the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying,” so it seems the game will be constructed in such a way that gamers can play it in whatever manner they see fit.

It was announced at SDCC in July that the entire cast of FIREFLY would lend their voices to the game; “There’s an epic new story they’ll be helping tell -and when we say ‘epic,’ we mean EPIC”, although in the case of Wash and Book it raises the question of under precisely what circumstances the characters could appear.

You must have the Adobe Flash Player installed to view this player.

FIREFLY ONLINE is set to be released some time in spring next year. Updates on the game’s development can be found on its official website.
