WATTO'S EMPORIUM Weekly Top 3

PrintE-mail Written by Jack Bottomley

Welcome once again to the movie marketplace that is Watto’s Emporium, which rounds up some of the best merch that we found across the online galaxy. And with this week’s march through the market, we take a more nostalgic and cultish approach to our weekly top 3. So open the gates of the emporium and take a peek…

3.  Sonic The Hedgehog Socks (numskull.co.uk, £9.99)

Who knew socks could be cool? Well the peeps over at numskull.co.uk that’s who. Socks may have been the token disappointing gift since Sonic the Hedgehog was a hoglet. However not all socks are made equal and these particular pieces of Sega sock wear are as impressive as completing the Labyrinth zone without losing any golden rings (if you got that joke, you need these socks). Just recently celebrating his 24th birthday, the blue, spikey, speedster Sonic is one of gaming and pop cultures most iconic characters and these socks give fans the chance to show off their appreciation. The pairs are split into three styles- one resembling Sonic’s classy red footwear, another based on the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Genesis (ask your parents) game’s Green Zone setting and another based on Sonic’s portly arch nemesis Dr. Robotnik (or Dr. Eggman as he’s also known). Literally the only way this gorgeously geeky gear could be any better is if it gave you a speed power up.

2. Avengers T-Shirt (tribal-tshirts.com, £11.99)

The Avengers is a name associated more with hammer lobbing gods and shield tossing patriot superheroes nowadays but before the Marvel universe took over film and TV, The Avengers was an altogether different form of entertainment. Starring the late Patrick Macnee, who sadly passed away at the age of 93 yesterday (this has been a truly tragic year for TV and film), British TV’s The Avengers was a landmark series that birthed the ‘spy-fi’ genre. So to celebrate the passing of the show’s legendary star and the show itself, tribal-tshirts.com gives fans the chance with this simple but effective shirt. Featuring the silhouette of Macnee’s John Steed and Diana Rigg’s Emma Peel, this shirt comes in a variety of colours and is the best way to celebrate one of the TV greats…the less said about that 1997 movie remake the better. RIP Mr. Steed…we tip our hats to ya!

1. Kidrobot Adventure Time (Blind Box) Mini Series (alltheheroes.co.uk, £7.99)

In the age of ambivalent modern Children’s TV, many find it hard to pick out a highlight, however Pendleton Ward’s hand drawn Fantasy series Adventure Time can be called just that. Looking at the adventures of human boy Finn and his magical dog Jake, Adventure Time’s heavily Dungeons & Dragons indebted narrative and style has led to the show attaining a massive fandom. So how best to celebrate your love of the show? Well there is the alltheheroes.co.uk Adventure Time t-shirt range of course but you know us, we are always drawn to mystery, so our pick would be their intriguing Blind Box offer. The box features a 3" X 1 figure of one of the show’s numerous colourful characters in Kidrobot style. Signed, sealed, delivered…”easy peasy, livin’ breezy”.
