Quoting Mr Cheese:
I still prefer the actual cover though...
It is my job to bring the Magazine back from the wilderness. I like to think that we have done an amazing job of resurrecting online, building up a massive online following (over 94,000 on Twitter, nearly 4 times the amount of certain publications), and then pumping my hard earned cash into putting her back to print. We have an amazing team (all of which own every issue, as do I), and she is in the hands of people (Including Dez Skinn), who love the mag. I intend to have one foot in the present and one foot in the past. We need to cherish our legacy whilst surging forward with new and imaginative content. With regards to the cover. I refer you back to the cover of Issue 1. Artwork is fine. It is subjective however, and a photo will always please the masses.
Now please everyone READ MY LIPS. You will NEVER see a photographic image on the cover of STARBURST while I am in charge. That is my decision. This is also my cover. I am sorry that Ray does not like it, but equally I do not like his. That's life folks. However, I can guarantee Ray and everyone else the best Magazine they have read since STARBURST sadly lost it's way.
No, not at all like SFX but rather classic Starburst, which I thought would be obvious. As for my point being well, it's my personal taste and Starburst is something that I'm very passionate about. It has been a constant through most of my life and made a HUGE contribution to my education believe it or not.
But those 2 final years of the mags previous print run were so uninspired and now you're prepping to get out in the market again in a year in which the output of quality genre film will likely be unprecedented and here you are with a cover that I feel is uninspired and in my opinion just bland ugly.
I don't mean to ruffle anyones feathers but this is how I honestly feel about it. I want Starburst to thrive and I will be subscribing but I have a gut reaction to the"resurrection" cover and it just doesn't sit well with me so I'll say my piece.
A cover a bit like SFX then?? The point being....? I admit the cover looks unusual without any text but I'm getting used to it; it's bold and different and is likely to attract attention by virtue of the fact that it IS different. Time will tell, anyway...
I must admit to LOVING the simplicity of the cover, myself. It really sets Starburst apart as a magazine that runs on its reputation and its quality, rather than the amount of box-offs it can cram into a single space. Has a touch of the feel of a speak-easy, in a way... You know what it says to me? Quality, and confidence, and not desperation.

My first was #34 with The Howling on the front, one of the best covers the magazine has ever done. Marvel did a great job with design. Visual imagination took over with a shaky start but the reviews were good. The last two years 2007/08 of the print run suffered padded layouts and repetitious features.
For the most part the mag was great. I enjoyed it as much as going to the cinema itself.
Starburst has a great legacy and what a brilliant time to make a comeback! 2012 is going to be an amazing year for genre film and I'm glad to see Starburst in print and being part of it again making an impact on the newsstand and reconnecting with previous subscribers and finding new fans. It's quiet a challenge you guys have have undertaken in the current economic climate to get yourselves out there on the shelf again. Put your best foot forward and give it all you got!
If only your cover could have reflected that.
