Event News

Great news for fans of 1970s British horror - London's Barbican is screening a season of Pete Walker movies this November (1st - 24th) in an event curated by the tireless Cigarette Burns Cinema.

Here's a chance to see Walker’s terror classics, Frightmare, House of Mortal Sin and House of Whipchord, on the big screen (along with Walker’s 1977 thriller The Comeback and his ‘sex picture’ from 1970, Cool It Carol) with introductions from Kim Newman, David McGillivray, Jonathan Rigby and Matthew Sweet; and -- Walker himself in conversation with Jonathan Rigby on 22nd November!

We at STARBURST HQ are Walker fans of old, having surveyed the grimy gore auteur’s career waaaay back in issue 57 (May 1983) for the release of what was to be his last film House of the Long Shadows. Sadly, Walker quit filmmaking shortly after – a huge blow to Brit exploitation fans - which makes this short season the more welcome! With a career stretching thirteen features (plus countless ‘nudie’ shorts) no doubt Walker will have some tales to tell from the era of classic British exploitation!
