Scotland’s international horror movie festival, Dead by Dawn, returns to Edinburgh this year with a whole host of screenings and events to mark its 21st Anniversary. Among the highlights and UK premieres are: OCULUS starring Katee Sackhoff and Scotland’s own Karen Gillan; Takashi Miike’s LESSON OF EVIL; Josh Zeman and Rachel Mills’ amazing documentary KILLER LEGENDS with Josh and Rachel Skype-ing in for a Q&A after the screening; Antoine Barraud’s LES GOUFFRES starring Mathieu Amalric; Stuart Simpson’s ice-cream meltdown CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY VANILLA; the UK Premiere of Daniel Stamm’s 13 SINS featuring Ron Perlman; Gerard Johnstone’s hilarious, twisted and creepy HOUSEBOUND; Eiji Uchida’s unique, bizarre and vicious GREATFUL DEAD

The festival’s classics line-up includes Sean Cunningham’s FRIDAY 13th, Bernard Rose’s CANDYMAN and from Joe Dante both TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE, and THE HOWLING; Twilight Zone director Joe Dante will Skype in to announce the winner of the scariest selfie of the festival; Kier-la Janisse, author of House of Psychotic Women, will host SCHOOL OF SHOCK: PAIN AND PLEASURE IN THE CLASSROOM SAFETY FILM.

Plus, dozens of beautiful, bite-sized nightmares in the SHORT FILM PROGRAMME; and festival-goer­­­s get their opportunity to offload their DVD dreck in the ever-popular SHIT FILM AMNESTY.

This year marks the 21st Anniversary of Dead by Dawn. Cinema visionary William Castle was born on 24 April 1914 and, to mark the centenary of hi­­s birth, Dead by Dawn is hosting two special screenings – HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL starring Vincent Price, and MR SARDONICUS, with Skyped-in introductions by William’s daughter, Terry Castle.
