Event News

If you live in Birmingham and buy the odd comic book or two (as well as your latest copy of Starburst magazine, naturally) then you are probably more than familiar with Nostalgia & Comics, one of the oldest comic book stores in the country.

That being the case then you will no doubt be familiar with the two Dave’s who this weekend celebrate thirty years of having supplied Brummies’ with all their comic and collectible needs.

Over the past three decades store manager Dave Hopkins and David Dearn have witnessed Starburst rise from the ashes, seen major changes in the comic industry, played host to all sorts of writers and artists, made recommendations that have seriously depleted my bank balance, and in more recent years become a member of the Forbidden Planet International family.

So if you happen to be in Birmingham this weekend why not pay the Daves a visit, including ‘Surfer’ Dave (so called as his favourite comic book character is… well I’m sure you can guess), and may be pick up the latest issue of Starburst if you haven’t already. There’ll be screenings of Return of the Jedi, Superman III and Octopussy on the Monday. Well what’s a bank holiday without a Bond film? And before you ask why Superman III and Octopussy, well it’s the Spirit of ‘83, celebrating the thirty years of the two Dave’s having worked at the store and those were the movies that were released in the summer of 1983. See?

Oh, and Dave Hopkins finally achieves a long held ambition of having a coffee bar available in store when the Pop Cult Coffee shop opens up just for the 24th August. Yes there will be cake and donuts too.
