The BFI has announced a special season celebrating the life and work of the late great Sir John Hurt, to take place at the Southbank throughout January 2018.

The announcement was made during a special memorial event – Sir John Hurt: A Celebration – which took place on Sunday, June 25th and was hosted by film critic Mark Kermode, curated by Anwen Hurt and featured some of Hurt’s most celebrated moments on screen, accompanied by tributes and memories from some of the people who worked with him throughout his life including BAFTA-winning director Sir Alan Parker, Oscar-winning producer Jeremy Thomas, writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry, actors Toby Jones and Penelope Wilton and from politics and diplomacy, Cathy Ashton.

The line-up for the season has yet to be announced, but with a filmography that includes such genuine classics such as David Lynch’s The Elephant Man, Alien, 10 Rillington Place, Midnight Express, and the film version of 1984, there will be no shortage of great movies to see and no doubt some enlightening special guests brought onboard to celebrate and remember the talent of the fabulous Sir John Hurt.

Keep an eye on the BFI website for ticket details for the event which runs from January 1st to January 31st, 2018, and will mark one year since the legend’s sad passing.
