Thursday, May 25th marks the 40th anniversary of the US release of Star Wars, and it is also the second day of the fantastic Vectis auction of rare toys and collectable items from the franchise that changed the way we consume movies.

Among the more unusual items is a set of unique prints of photographs taken for Return of the Jedi as costume test shots. The virtually unseen set of 15 12”x16” images are a true find and will be on auction individually, with estimates of £3,000 to £6,000 each!

As always, vintage carded action figures are amongst the most sought after items in the sale. One of the rarest on offer this time is a complete vinyl cape Jawa from the figure’s very first run. Only a handful of these are known to exist, and even fewer in their original packaging. The estimate is £8,000 - £10,000 but judging from previous sales, it could go for much more.

Even some of the loose figures are expected to go for large amounts with a 1977 ‘R’ hilt Lightsaber Darth Vader expected to hit upwards of £7,000. Similarly, an ultra-rare poster acetate from 1977 could surpass its estimate of £4,000 - £6,000.

Vectis has fast become the primary force in the auctioning of Star Wars memorabilia, in-house expert Kathy Taylor commented, “Star Wars memorabilia is currently the most sought after franchise that we have ever seen here at Vectis Auctions. Interest is particularly high as the 40th Anniversary of the initial release of the first film. Within our regular TV and Film related sales we see everything from to higher value items such as the Harbert Jawa Carded Figure which sold recently for over £10,000 to the more quirky items that raise eyebrows. In the past Vectis sold a Star Wars pencil sharpener for over £200 and a plastic carrier bag with a Palitoy Star Wars logo on for £240. The collector is interested in everything from the history of the toys which would include Palitoy factory paperwork to the vast selection of collectables which encompasses toys, film props, posters, images, clothing etc. This is not just a UK phenomenon. On auction day our telephone and live internet bidders come from all four corners of the globe.

You can browse the full auction catalogue and register to bid by heading over to the Vectis website.
