Secret Cinema Presents 28 DAYS LATER

Event News

You may remember that we were lucky enough to be invited to Secret Cinema’s presentation of The Empire Strikes Back last year and what an experience it was. Hopefully, you followed our advice and went yourself.

An evening of pantomime, theatre and audience participation involved us basically walking – as a pre-ordained SW Universe character – through the events of A New Hope, including visiting Tatooine and the Cantina Bar in particular, being transferred to the Death Star and witnessing both the lightsaber battle between Obi Wan and Vader right above our heads and the highlight of the whole evening. We got to see a life-size replica of an X-Wing glide across the ceiling above. After we’d seen the screening of ESB, along with more theatre during the film going on around us, we were treated to DJ Yoda spinning the decks for an after party.

It was a stunning evening of entertainment that we honestly wish everyone had had the pleasure of attending.

So, on hearing that Secret Cinema was turning their crosshairs onto their first horror experience, we got very excited. And then we got a little bit scared.

From April 14th – May 29th, Secret Cinema will be presenting Danny Boyle’s 2002 seminal zombie-film-that’s-not-a-zombie-film, 28 Days Later and, knowing how much participation was possible from last year’s film, this makes us think that we should be working on our cardio right now instead of typing this.

For now, tickets are available but the London location is, as usual, very hush hush. Interestingly, Secret Cinema has also stated that another city will also play host to this experience. Manchester, perhaps?

Andrew Macdonald, producer of 28 Days Later has said: “Secret Cinema never fails to amaze with their experiences, and it’s exciting to see them tackle their first ever horror. London prepare.

Sounds like good advice.

Fabien Riggall, Founder and Creative Director of Secret Cinema said: “Secret Cinema is excited to step into the world of horror with Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, a true British horror classic - we look forward to creating a suitably frightening and exhilarating experience. Secret Cinema’s expansion over the last nine years has been remarkable; we’ve now created experiences in New York and Berlin, as well as the many in London. But this will be a turning point for us as we embark upon our very first UK nationwide production.

Unlike ESB, this Secret Cinema event is specifically for adults only, for obvious reasons.

Like the writing in the church in the film says, “Repent. The end is extremely fucking nigh!

We’ll give you a review as soon as we can – and if we manage to escape!
