The sixteenth Film 4 FrightFest, which takes place from Thursday August 27th to Monday August 31st at London’s Vue West End, Leicester Square, has announced details of the seventy-six films that will play over five screens this year.

British and Irish talent is to the fore with, alongside the already-announced festival opener Cherry Tree, there is the world premiere for the hilarious and disturbing Aaaaaah!, directed by Sightseers’ Steve Oram. Other home grown films showing include Bait, a tale of female revenge from Dominic Brunt, whose Before Dawn has become a modern classic, Nina Forever, a ‘zom-rom-com’ by Ben and Chris Blaine, Liam Regan’s eagerly-awaited Banjo and Sundance hit The Hallow.

Other new films to watch out for include A Christmas Horror Story, Curve, Candyman director Bernard Rose’s Frankenstein, which features Carrie Ann-Moss (The Matrix) and Tony Todd, the French remake of Mario Bava’s Rabid Dogs, Enragés, acclaimed ghost story We Are Still Here, and the gory Night Fare and Deathgasm.

The ever-popular Discover Screen selection boasts an array of independent features from all over the world including Russell Friedenberg’s Wind Walkers (you can read our interview with Russell here), Night of the Living Deb, Hangman, Bloodsucking Bastards, The Shelter, Worry Dolls, Curtain, Over Your Dead Body from the legendary Takashi Miike, and Mickey Keating’s POD, starring FrightFest faves Larry Fassenden and Lauren Ashley Carter (Jugface/The Pit).

Old favourites also get represented by the Retrospective strand. This year, there is a varied selection as one would expect. New restorations of Clive Barker’s popular Hellraiser and the rarely-seen giallo classic Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (which should win any prize for best title) show alongside Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, the Hammer classic that has seen a valid reappraisal of late, cult slashers Madman and The Mutilator and the fun sword-and-sorcery flick Hawk the Slayer. More arty horrors are represented by Ulli Lommel’s Tenderness of the Wolves and The Reflecting Skin, an early work from Heartless director Philip Ridley.

There will also be more short films showcased and loads of special guests, including directors and stars of the selected films. These will be announced in the coming weeks.

Festival and day pass sales will go on sale Saturday July 4th, at noon and will only be available online here (don’t forget, they will only be on sale at midday on Saturday and there’s no need to camp out outside the cinema). Single tickets will go on sale on Saturday July 25th.

A festival pass will cost £185. Day passes are: Thursday £30, Friday & Saturday £60, Sunday & Monday £50. Single tickets will be £13.25.

Screens 5, 6 & 7 will house the main event while the Discovery strands will play in Screens 3 & 8.  The Discovery at The Prince Charles cinema strand will be in Screen 1.
