DEAD BY DAWN Line-Up Revealed

Edinburgh’s annual DEAD BY DAWN horror festival will return for its 22nd year, running from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th April, and several of the features to be screened have been announced.

In horror comedy AMIGO UNDEAD, two brothers attempting to reconcile on a camping trip must deal with the unforeseen and supernatural consequences of an accidental death.

In Dutch shocker DE POEL (aka THE POOL), two families break into a nature reserve and camp near a beautiful pond, only for inexplicable occurrences to take place around them, and the way out of the mysterious glade becoming difficult to find.

AVA’S POSSESSIONS tells the story of a woman attending a support group for those recovering from demonic possession attempt to reclaim her life.

BLOOD PUNCH sees a meth cook convinced to break out of rehab by an alluring bad girl in order to cook drugs for her and her psychotic corrupt cop boyfriend, only for the three to become caught in a time loop of carnage and mayhem.

In Spanish psychological thriller MUSARANAS (aka SHREW’S NEST), an agoraphobic woman living with her younger sister takes in a neighbour after he is injured falling down the stairs, creating a tense and claustrophobic scenario of hidden secrets and shifting power plays.

In Belgian slasher flick CUB (aka WELP), a bullied scout on a woodland camping trip (camping appears to be a recurring theme this year) encounters a mysterious and violent mythical creature.

In Danish mystery WHEN ANIMALS DREAM, a teenage girl slowly undergoes a strange transformation as dead bodies begin to turn up around the isolated coastal community.

Norwegian two-hander AMNESIA sees a woman on a weekend away with her abusive boyfriend find an opportunity to for escape when he hits his head and loses his memory, her freedom almost guaranteed as long as she can stop him remembering who he is.

As well as what will become your new favourite international wonders there are also a number of classics in the line-up: Michael Mann’s MANHUNTER; John McNaughton’s HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, George Sluizer’s THE VANISHING, and a Stuart Gordon/HP Lovecraft duo of DAGON and RE-ANIMATOR.

As if all these wonderful features weren’t enough for you, there will also be dozens of shorts screened of varied styles, “some to make you laugh, some to put you right off your lunch and some to make you want to sleep with the lights on for the rest of your life!”

The regular Shit Film Amnesty will also make a reappearance, in which participants offload the most abominable garbage tainting their DVD shelves, with the owner of the very worst entrant – dubiously referred to as the winner – walking off with the whole lot.
