Thanks for the fun piece on this weird little bit of Doctor Who arcana... the other comments are downright deranged and as obsessed with Levine's ass as JN-T was! I say, good for Ian and what a fun hobby to have for the OCD type.

--continued-- In this case Dan Hall's choice was the right one, but most fans will never know or believe that because it is in Ian's best interest not to do anything that might allow them to do so, and to keep up the mythology of the Shada animation, rather than revealing the bare truth of it. There is, after all, good reason why the only ever 'review' came from one of his most ardent supporters (see above), and why not so much as a brief clip has ever been released for the Who loving public at large to see and hear and make any sort of informed judgement on. The Shada animation is not the lost treasure that fandom at large has blindly marked it as being, in fact it is nowhere even close to that, & it is a great shame that more from within the circle who have seen it have not come out to say so, even doing so anonymously, so as to avoid the perils of Ian's wrath. Especially when all, including Ian, very much know it to be true. --end--

--continued-- If this had been included on DVD most fans would have written it off very quickly indeed as a waste of time & money. And if they ever found out how much would have had to be spent in order to even get it into a legal and acceptable release state, they truly would have hit the roof. And if the animation had been included in place of the Tom Baker VHS links, those same fans would have been screaming at Dan Hall for using 'this rubbish' instead of the imperfect but far more watchable and less obtrusive VHS links that everyone currently complains about. --continued--

--continued-- There is good reason why Ian has been so protective over just how few he has shared this one with folks, it is because the idea is far more attractive than the reality. It also allows him to scapegoat the disappointing end result onto Dan Hall and company, distracting everyone who gave up time and money over what a botched job he made of it all. He wouldn't even show it to a certain returning cast member, whom it is not really my place to name here, but quiz a couple at fan conventions and you'll likely soon find out who I am referring to. --continued--

--continued-- Honestly, if you have seen his reconstruction of Planet of Giants episode 4, just imagine that, only with truly terrible and ill fitting animation instead. Sure, in a couple of very carefully selected static shots it looks nice enough, but in motion & in actuality it is Planet of Giants episode 4 reconstruction bad, and even more jarring when meshed with the live action Shada sequences. As such, it represents little more than a passing fan curiosity, & I would state for the record that 99% of those who are so desperate for this, would have been bitterly disappointed by it had they gotten it. I wasn't at all surprised that Dan Hall and company passed on this after it was offered. And to be perfectly honest, I doubt that Ian was either. --continued--

Unlike very many, other than the chap above who reviewed/promoted Ian's Shada animation, I have seen the Shada reconstruction. And honestly folks, you aren't missing anything. In fact I get a bit of a chuckle out of the fan furore that erupted over a few instances of dodgy editing in the Reign of Terror animation this year, when if those same fans clamouring for the animated Shada had gotten their wish, their heads would have exploded with just how poorly constructed & amateurish an effort it was. I genuinely like Ian & get on with him fine, but anyone who has been given the rare opportunity to see his version of Shada, that has any objectivity whatsoever, can tell you that it really doesn't work at all, & is a very poor effort indeed. The intentions were honourable, but the end result was rather appalling to sit through. --continued--

Seriously, how many pro-Ian Levine pieces have you personally cluttered up the internet with at this point, a thousand? More? People should know that this so-called review may as well have come from Ian Levine himself. Hell, he probably helped ghost-write it.

Must be quite brown and sticky up there inside Ian Levine's ass. Why don't be up front with your exact relationship with Ian Levine, by the way? Or would that have made this puff piece just too blatantly obvious as being the slice of pro-Levine propaganda that it so clearly is? Must be nice not to have to worry about things like ethics and honesty, eh?

Fantastic review of something i would LOVE to see given an official release too. I am not a fan of animation in general, but for things like The Invasion, it is essential so we can get our "Who Fix" to sit nicely in our DVD collection. I personally enjoyed The Invasion's animated missing episodes and i would love to see Ian Levine's Shada as i know from following him on Twitter that Ian tries his best to make sure that other Doctor Who fans get to see everything available to them. Fingers crossed that we get to see Shada in some form other than the one that has seen a recent DVD release. Once again, great review and very well written. X
