STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION – Where Are They Now?

Patrick Stewart has revealed he won't appear in any future in X-Men films, but he first became a global star as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation (TNG).

The Marvel sci-fi franchise, in which he plays Professor Charles Xavier, is one of several screen and stage successes for Sir Patrick since his time on the SS Enterprise.

It's 30 years this September since TNG's TV stories of space adventure first aired. But what of the rest of the cast – did they boldly go on to greatness or were they beamed down to the 'Planet Obscurity'?

Jonathan Frakes (beefcake Commander William T Riker) has had more success behind the camera than in front of it, directing two Star Trek movies in the '90s and a host of US TV shows in subsequent years.

Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) is also fairly low profile with voice acting work and small TV parts (eg. The Big Bang Theory). He's a blogger, dabbles in politics and is a celebrity supporter of various sports activities.

Brent Spiner (Commander Data) has played small-but-key roles in plenty of films, but nothing to eclipse the famous android. He has, however, released an LP of 1940s tunes called Ol' Yellow Eyes in Back.

Michael Dorn (Worf) got a regular slot in TNG follow-up Deep Space Nine and his portrayal of a Klingon is still what he's best known for.

Bucking the trend of disappointment, of course, is Whoopi Goldberg. She won an Oscar (Ghost) during her stint as Guinan in TNG and has since added multiple TV, stage and comedy awards!
