Comic News: DC Unveils LOBO's New Look

Comic Book News

Less “one who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it”, more “one who moisturises.” While certain quarters are busy writing petitions trying to get Batfleck sacked, this one has been bubbling away in the background, taking the more comics-literate forums by storm.

While the Main Man, Lobo, has already appeared once in DC's New 52 (helmed by gun and pouch fetishist Rob Liefeld), apparently that wasn't the main Main Man. An impostor, then, an identity thief. With that in mind, DC have revealed the real Lobo; a slender gentleman with Milhouse hair and something of the Metal Gear Solid about him. This all-new Metrosexual look is about as far away from Bisley's cigar-chewing, motorbike riding psycho bounty hunter as one can get (think a hairy DC Deadpool version of Wolverine). It's a little more reminiscent of Lobo's original Omega Men look (a fact many of the furious conveniently seem to forget) but still, a stunning transformation.

Does that negate the other Lobo, though? Lobo's debut in Justice League: #23.2: Lobo (coming as part of DC's 'Villains Month' special) will focus on nu-Lobo's quest to kill the man who has taken his name. We don't fancy this scrawny interloper's chances against, um, other Lobo, but time will tell how it plays out. If the whole Batfleck debacle has taught us anything, it's that maybe we should all chill out a bit and give things a chance.

Who knows, just as Bisley's Lobo was a critique of 'X-treme' nineties comics, this might all just turn out to be a clever statement on reboots, pretty-boy superheroes and really, desperately trying to get your characters to appeal to movie studios....
