Comic News: DC Launch New Logo...

Written by Kris Heys Thursday, 19 January 2012

Comic News

What was wrong with the old one, you might ask. Good question!

Well, not content with rebooting their entire continuity, come March DC Comics will reboot their logo too. And here's a sneak peek as to what they've decided to go with...

Ok, yes, it's a little bland, but before you make any rash judgements, that's just the main, more corporate one. Didio and co have something else up their sleeves - seems the new logo has been designed to be easily adaptable across titles, and will be uniquely branded depending on the property. Example...

How fun! Can you guess which are which? (Take special note of the bottom left, giving credence to the long-standing rumours of an upcoming WATCHMEN follow-up).

These are just shit. End of story. Would love to be more eloquent, but shit really does the job here. Rather than write a thesis - just a few points;
1) You can't tell that it says 'DC'. You will only know it says 'DC' because it will be on the damn comic.
2) The DC Stars are a big and iconic part of the logo. Part of the rich heritage that they seem to despise at the moment.
3) To further illustrate my point about the non-functionality. They have to actually state 'DC Comics' under the icon anyway, and in a very boring font. Speaks volumes!

ladies and gentlemen. I rest my case.

Is there ANYTHING this company won't do to piss me off these days? (Sulks and goes back to read some silver age classics)
