Sir Terry Pratchett is to have a pig named after his latest work as part of the 13th annual Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse prize.
The prize pig is given for writing the novel that is deemed to have the best “comic spirit” of all the nominees, which this year included the consistently funny John O’ Farrell and Sue Townsend, as well as Julian Gough and John Lanchester.
Of course, the pig isn’t the only prize, as he also gets a case of champagne (one would presume Bollinger) and a set of P.G. Wodehouse books.
The locally-bred pig will be called Snuff, after the novel which won Pratchett the award. In a way, it’s good that Sue Townsend’s latest work didn’t win, as “The Woman Who Went To Bed For A Year” is a very strange name for a pig. Imagine trying to summon it!
We at Starburst are very happy for him and are sure this prize has made Pratchett happy as a pig in [That’s quite enough of that - Ed]!
