Book News

WATCHING BOOKS is a new publishing imprint created by STARBURST columnist and reviewer J.R. Southall, with the chief goal being to reissue the previously published YOU AND WHO books, which had fallen out of print, as well as keeping the line updated with further volumes.

With all three original editions of YOU AND WHO now republished, including an omnibus edition of both volumes of CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE (also available on Kindle), WATCHING BOOKS’ next release will be the YOU AND WHO spin-off volume BLAKE’S HEAVEN – a book dealing with the fans’ experiences of watching cult 1970s TV show BLAKE’S 7. The paperback, edited by JOHN DAVIES and with a foreword by PAUL DARROW (Avon in the series), will be available on May 12th and will retail at around £15. 100% of the royalties from all of the above will be donated to Children in Need.

Later in the year, a further volume of YOU AND WHO fan memoirs will be issued, this time dealing with British telefantasy in general rather than specifically Doctor Who. YOU AND WHO ELSE will be published in aid of the Terrence Higgins Trust and the submissions process is still open; more details can be found here.

Following that, WATCHING BOOKS’ next publication will be HATING TO LOVE, a book re-evaluating the 52 worst DOCTOR WHO stories of all time, in this the series’ 52nd anniversary year. A collection of J.R. SOUTHALL’s pre-STARBURST essays and reviews has already been published as THE MONSTER SHOW.

Further details of all these books, along with links to where they can be bought, are available at the WATCHING BOOKS website.
